Shoo Rayner was born in Kingston-upon-Thames in Surrey. Shoo studied graphics at Cambridge
College of Arts and Technology. Before settling on a career as an author and illustrator,
Shoo tried his hand at screen printing, sign writing and singing in a rock band (though he
claims to prefer to forget this).
Shoo has written and illustrated over sixty children's books and is the creator behind many well-loved characters, including the Jets series (A&C Black), The Ginger Ninja and Rex Files (Hodder), Oxford Reading Tree titles and picture books including Cat in a Flap and Hey Diddle Diddle (Puffin). He illustrated the wonderfully warm and collectable Colour Crackers series, written by Rose Impey, and these have proved to be so popular, that he has re-illustrated them in full colour. Shoo also writes and illustrates the Little Horrors series. |
He has illustrated titles by Michael Morpurgo, Terry Deary and Michael Rosen. Children read Shoo's early readers by the bucket load because they are both thought-provoking and funny. His interest in computers has led him down many paths, including digital treatment of artwork and complete books.
Shoo lives in Gloucestershire with his wife and two children.
