Geraldine McCaughrean

Whitbread Award winner, Geraldine McCaughrean, is an accomplished children's author who has retold classic stories to create some of Orchard's most beautiful books, as well as enjoying success with her own stories and adult novels.

She has brought a new and fresh approach to well-loved stories in her gift book collections for Orchard. The Orchard Book of Starry Tales and The Orchard Book of Love and Friendship have received rave reviews. Geraldine has also written the picture book texts Little Angel, How the Reindeer Got Their Antlers and Unicorns! Unicorns! Geraldine's latest book, Jalopy, is a shorter novel charting the adventures of a smart red car and its many owners.

Geraldine won the Whitbread Children's Award for A Little Lower Than the Angels and the Beefeater's Children's Novel Award for Gold Dust. She also won the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Children's Fiction Award for A Pack of Lies. Her re-telling of Pilgrim's Progress won the Blue Peter Book of the Year Award and The Kite Rider won the Blue Peter 'Book I Would Most Like to Keep For Ever" Award.

Geraldine lives in Berkshire with her husband and daughter.
