Brian Keaney was born in London. His parents were Irish. As a child he spent every summer in
Ireland and this formed the background to his first book for Orchard Books, Family Secrets.
He made up his mind to be a writer when he was at school and writing is the most important thing
in his life, apart from his family.
Many of his books contain strong female characters and he has been praised for this (Books for Keeps). For Orchard Books he has written Family Secrets, The Private Life of Georgia Brown, Bitter Fruit, Balloon House and Falling For Joshua. Jacob's Ladder, a dramatic, thought-provoking novel about a boy caught between the past and the future, addresses important issues through the medium of fantasy and was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. The Hollow People, publishing in September 2006, is the first book in a gripping new trilogy, The Promises of Dr. Sigmundus. Look out for the second instalment, The Gallowglass in September 2007. |
