| Anthony Masters's first book, a collection of short stories for adults called A Pocket Full of Rye, was published when he was only twenty-four. Anthony's first novel, The Seahorse, which won the John Lewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize, was published not long after. Since then Anthony has established a reputation as a popular and gifted author, writing both fiction and non-fiction for children and adults. |

Anthony was particularly well known for exploring issues in the lives of young adults. His
books about young men stranded between childhood and maturity - struggling with issues of trust
and faced with difficult, sometimes violent, situations - convey very real and contemporary
dilemmas brilliantly.
Anthony's presence in the world of children's books will be keenly missed. Web of Terror, his last book for young adults, was completed just before his untimely death in April 2003 and is a gripping example of Anthony's writing at its most thrilling. Web of Terror will be published in February 2004, at the same time a new issue of the young adult novel, The Drop, will be released. |

Also in the Black Apples series, Day of the Dead was shortlisted for the Angus Award and
Wicked has been chosen as one of the 100 Best Books by Book Trust.
"There is no doubt that Anthony Masters knows how to pack a story full of fast-moving incidents, sharply drawn characters and emotional turmoil." - Junior Bookshelf | |
